Welcome to the Gasconade County Historical Society Museum, located in the heart of Owensville, Missouri. Our museum is housed in a beautiful building that has served as a hotel for railroad clients since 1910. Throughout the years, it has been known as the Owensville Hotel, the Ozark Hotel, and the Railroad Hotel. In 1992, the building was purchased by the Historical Society and underwent renovations to transform it into the county museum that it is today.
At the museum, you will find a wide range of exhibits and displays that focus on the history of Gasconade County and its residents. From clothing and tools to churches and schools, our exhibits tell the story of people who came to this area to start a new life. You can learn about the people of Gasconade County and their involvement in six wars, as well as their ontributions to business, civic and social organizations. The museum also showcases the rich heritage of music, art, and literature that has been passed down through the generations.
A visit to the Gasconade County Historical Society Museum is a great way to spend an afternoon, whether you are a local resident or just passing through. We are open on a regular basis each week and offer off-hour accommodations for special group or student tours. Contact our museum director at 573-437-6198 to learn more or to schedule a tour. In addition, our building and grounds are available for use for civic and private functions on a limited basis.
